A Desperate Plan[]

The streets of Moscow are in chaos and disarray. A man holding a sign with the word "ИЗМЕНЕНИЕ" (CHANGE) runs in as a crowd protests around the Kremlin. In the building, officials are in a hurry taking artifacts and burning documents. Two Soviet officers enter the room.

Cherdenko: The Premier is gone!

Krukov: Yes, the coward has already fled. The USSR is at death's door, comrade.

Cherdenko: Which is why we must hurry.

Cherdenko reveals a button hidden under a Lenin bust and pushes it. A bookcase opens outwards from the wall, revealing an elevator. Cherdenko enters the elevator.

Cherdenko: Sir, I beg you... Please!

Krukov enters the elevator. The bookcase closes as the elevator descends.

Krukov: What is this? Some sort of escape route?

Cherdenko: No sir. Twelve months ago I was put in charge of a top-secret project.

Krukov: Whatever it is, it's too late.

Cherdenko: With respect, General... You are wrong. Please...

The two exit the lift.

Cherdenko: For you see sir, time is on our side.

Krukov looks on in awe. The two head towards a large device. Zelinsky converses with his assistant before noticing the Soviet officers.

Zelinsky: No... No, no, no, it isn't ready! It hasn't been tested. We don't even know if it works!

Krukov: If what works?

Zelinsky: My... time machine.

Cherdenko: Prepare these coordinates.

Zelinsky: No... Please... Please...

Cherdenko: Now!

Zelinsky: Sir... No! No...

Zelinsky attempts to block Cherdenko and Krukov from entering the machine, but the two push forward.

Zelinsky: No, please. No!...

Zelinsky's assistant opens to the door to the machine.

Zelinsky: No, please. [Mumbles]

Cherdenko: Get in!

Zelinsky: All right.

Krukov: You cannot be serious?

Cherdenko: Come, Comrade General! A new world order awaits... [Enters time machine] Come!

Zelinsky prepares the coordinates as Krukov enters the machine. Zelinsky's assistant closes and locks the door. Zelinsky, Krukov, and Cherdenko are seated. Zelinsky dons on a pair of goggles and activates the time machine, sending the three into the past.

In the Past[]

The three Soviets arrive in the past, in an old backstage. Krukov reaches his arm out to the nearby curtains.

Zelinsky: No no! [Grabs Krukov arm] Touch nothing! We mustn't do anything to disrupt space-time continuum...

Krukov: Where are we?

Cherdenko: Brussels, 1927.

Krukov: 1927?

Cherdenko: The Solvay International Physics Conference.

The three see Albert Einstein giving a speech to the audience.

Zelinsky: Is that Einstein?

Cherdenko: Yes doctor, the ma most responsible for our enemy's technological superiority. The man who made them... invincible.

Zelinsky: What do you plan to do?

Cherdenko: [Grins]

Einstein heads backstage and meets the three, unaware of his fate.

Einstein: Gentlemen?

Cherdenko: Doctor! [Reaches out for handshake]

Zelinsky: NO!!!

As Cherdenko shakes hands with Einstein, the theoretical physicist disintegrates into blue dust, erasing him from the timeline.

Brave New Future[]

The three time travelers return to the present and reenter a refurbished Kremlin.

Krukov: I do not understand...

Zelinsky: We have altered the past and changed the present!

A transmission pops up on a monitor. Krukov turns to see.

Dasha: Ah, good to see you, sir. I have the reports from the front that you have requested.

Krukov: Thank you, what do you have for me?

Dasha: I'm sorry Comrade General, I meant Premier Cherdenko.

Cherdenko is visibly jubilant, while Krukov looks on in chagrin.

Dasha: Sir, the Allies are on the run. Soon Western Europe will be ours!

Cherdenko: Do you hear that, General? Our enemies have been defeated!

Dasha: Hold on, sir. I'm receiving an emergency transmission from our northern base.

Moskvin: THEY'RE ATTACKING! THERE ARE TOO MANY! WE HAVE TO EVACUATE!

Dasha: Who is attacking?

Both transmissions are cut out. The three Soviets meet a new foe.

Yoshiro: The Imperial war machine has been unleashed. Do not struggle against what is inevitable. All who stand in the way of our divine destiny will be swept away by the march of history. You will bow before us or you will cease to exist.

Dasha: Sir, it appears that the Empire has mounted a full scale assault!

Krukov: What Empire?

Dasha: The Empire of the Rising Sun, of course.

Zelinsky: We now have two mortal enemies?!

Krukov: We must unleash our nuclear weapons! Annihilate them all!

Dasha: Excuse me, General?

Krukov: Our nuclear weapons? Our atomic bombs?

Zelinsky: Don't you understand? Without Einstein, there is no nuclear weapons because we have altered the space-time continuum! Oh, who knows what nightmares we have created...

Cherdenko and Krukov look on anxiously.
