Renegade X is a tactical first and third person shooter developed by Totem Arts. The aim of the project is to recreate and modernize Westwood Studios' Command & Conquer: Renegade multiplayer experience. Originally envisioned as a remake of the game in Unreal Engine 3, Renegade X has evolved into more of a spiritual successor. Featuring updated gameplay, improved balance, enhanced graphics, intricate strategic depth, and a new approach to map design, Renegade X aims to improve upon the original.

Ore is the primary means of earning cash on the battlefield.
As in the original Renegade, Renegade X is a tactical shooter with real-time strategy elements. It boasts 64-player servers spread across two unique factions, the Global Defense Initiative and the Brotherhood of Nod, each with a different roster containing dozens of infantry classes with unique equipment and vehicles.

In the original Red Alert and Red Alert 2, ore comes in two variants: ore and gems, also known as valuable minerals. Ore is typically the more common of the two. Ore spreads both from existing ore as well as ore drills sometimes found in the middle of an ore field, essentially making it an infinite resource.
Renegade X features multiple game modes, the most popular of which is the "Command & Conquer" mode. One major feature added to the C&C mode is the commander role, in which a player is assigned to be the team's commander. The commander is given control of the team's harvester and has the ability to place waypoints and mark targets to focus on. The commander can also accumulate "Commander Points" to be able to call in support powers on the battlefield.

  +
Ore can be gathered by special vehicles, called Ore Trucks in Red Alert or faction-specific miners in Red Alert 2, which are:

Totem Arts was formed by Bilal Haj-Bakri ([NE]Fobby[Gen]) and Waqas Iqbal (Havoc89) as a volunteer team in 2006 with the aim of remaking Renegade as a total conversion mod for Unreal Tournament 3. The project was originally titled Renegade 2007.

Once their storage is full, no more ore is available in the immediate vicinity, or if ordered by the commander, these vehicles return to the nearest Ore Refinery to deposit their ore. It is either stored at an Ore Silo or processed immediately.
The mod was publicly released on 30 September 2009 and received multiple awards. After the 0.55 beta, the mod is no longer being developed as a modification for UT3, but as a free standalone game using Unreal Development Kit (UDK). As a result, the 0.55 beta is still available from the site, but no longer supported or patched by the development team.

In Red Alert, ore can be destroyed by shells or missiles. While vehicles cannot be forced to fire on a tile covered in ore, they may do so unintentionally while targeting a unit or structure, or if scripted to do so.
On 28 January 2012, Totem Arts released a demo called Renegade X: Black Dawn, a short standalone singleplayer game. The multiplayer version was first released on 26 February 2014 as an open beta, with Black Dawn missions excluded.

In Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge, ore and gems can only be destroyed via Force-Fire by certain weapons (those whose Warheads explicitly have the <code>Tiberium=yes</code> flag set in their code). The silo mechanic of previous games has also been removed, making it so that players no longer need silos to store mined ore. However, Ares DLL allows mods to make silos function again in RA2YR.
On 20 June 2020, a new expansion game mode titled Firestorm was announced. The game mode features infantry, vehicles, and buildings from the Tiberian Sun era, and players will able to seamlessly swap between Renegade X and Firestorm maps via end of round map voting. Firestorm will also feature larger maps and limited base building. Originally slated to release in fall 2020, the game mode was delayed to 2021 after reevaluations in gameplay mechanics.<ref name="FirestormUpdate">Firestorm Update - Delayed!, Music, and More. Ore is the main resource in the Red Alert universe of the Command & Conquer series.

Overview

Ore is the primary means of earning cash on the battlefield.

Ore can be gathered by special vehicles, called Ore Trucks in Red Alert or faction-specific miners in Red Alert 2, which are:

Once their storage is full, no more ore is available in the immediate vicinity, or if ordered by the commander, these vehicles return to the nearest Ore Refinery to deposit their ore. It is either stored at an Ore Silo or processed immediately.

In Red Alert, ore can be destroyed by shells or missiles. While vehicles cannot be forced to fire on a tile covered in ore, they may do so unintentionally while targeting a unit or structure, or if scripted to do so.

In Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge, ore and gems can only be destroyed via Force-Fire by certain weapons (those whose Warheads explicitly have the Tiberium=yes flag set in their code[1]). The silo mechanic of previous games has also been removed, making it so that players no longer need silos to store mined ore. However, Ares DLL allows mods to make silos function again in RA2YR[2].

In Red Alert 3, ore is now supplied in Ore Mines. Unlike its predecessors, the amount of ore is set and limited. Ore Collectors are used to gather the resource.

Gems

Gems, also known as multi-colored jewels[3], are more valuable than ore, but are rare in quantity. On the battlefield, gems are typically finite as they are not generated by ore drills, making them heavily contested by opposing commanders.

When gathered, gems provide double the resources of those provided by ore. Gems do not appear in Red Alert 3.

Trivia

  • In Red Alert 2, Ore and Gems reuse the Tiberian Sun Tiberium code for Tiberium Riparius and Tiberium Cruentus, respectively.
    • Comments in the rules INI suggest that other two Tiberium types, Vinifera and Aboreus, are also used as ore.
    • Despite reusing some of the Tiberium code, Ore and Gems do no damage to infantry, although this is not tied to the Tiberium immunity mechanic found in Tiberian Sun.
      • Leftover Tiberian Sun code found in Rules.ini reveals that immunity is only set on a handful of infantry - the commandos/elite infantry of a faction.
