The Soviets had failed to capture the Chronosphere in Switzerland, but occupied the country in the process and captured Albert Einstein. Einstein's execution was publicly announced, and before he could be shot by a firing squad, the Allies teleported Einstein to safety using another Chronosphere. The Soviets had previously equipped Einstein's pocket watch with a transmitter. The transmitter pointed to the location of the second Chronosphere being in either Spain or Portugal. Stalin, obsessed with capturing the Allied superweapon, ordered the commander to capture the Chronosphere. Like in the previous mission, Kukov warned the commander that the Chronosphere was booby-trapped, and that three radar centers had to be taken out before it could be captured safety.

Although the Soviet commander captured the Chronosphere, the Allies detonated it. It turned out that there was a fourth control center in the area that Kukov did not inform the commander of before his departure. Enraged, Stalin snapped Kukov's neck and immediately ordered the commander to invade England and destroy the last Allied headquarters, despite Nadia's warnings that the Soviet army was not adequately prepared for an invasion.
Bugs and Oversights
In a variant of the original DOS and Windows releases of Command & Conquer: Red Alert, the mission will fail if the Chronosphere is captured regardless of the Radar Domes. However, the mission can be successfully completed by destroying all Allied forces with the exception of the Chronosphere. This bug was fixed for the PlayStation version of the game, allowing the player to capture the Chronosphere as intended. In the remastered version, this bug is fixed as well.
Although an unseen “fourth transmitter” was to blame for the Chronosphere’s destruction, there are in fact four Radar Domes visible on the map. This is likely a mistake from confusion with there being three centres in the previous mission.
The Chronosphere will be damaged when the player gets to it. This is due to the Chronosphere belonging to a separate AI player with no power plants and buildings take damage very slowly from low power. This effectively gives the mission a time limit, albeit a very long one.
Revealing the Chronosphere with the Spy Plane is a very bad idea, as oddly the Chronosphere is an enemy to the main Allied force and nearby units will attack and destroy it.
