The Pillbox is an Allied base defence structure consisting of a steel bunker and a machine gun turret. Pillboxes are a common sight around Allied bases during Third World War.
Amphibious transports are unarmed land/sea infantry and vehicle carriers for all three sides in Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge.

Game unit
+
Background
  +
Pillboxes are cheap and ideal front-line defenses against enemy infantries. Its design comes from the old pillboxes of the past. Allies decided that they would return its design to the basic, armored shelter with machine gun emplacement. Despite the great and overwhelming power of new Soviet weapons such as Apocalypse tanks and V3 rocket launchers, it is proved to be a valuable asset in the face of dangerous Soviet infantry, such as the Crazy Ivans and the Psychic Corps Infantry.
Amphibious transports were used by the Allies, Soviets and Yuri to move ground troops and vehicles across water. The Allied and Yuri's transports are visually identical save for the Yuri version having a darker colour palette, while the Soviet version has a different appearance; however, all three share the same function. The Allied amphibious transport has weaker armour than its Soviet and Yuri counterparts due to a coding inconsistency.

  +
The pillbox replaced by more versatile Multigunner turret in the Third World War's third iteration.
An amphibious transport has 12 "slots". Most infantry units take up one slot, Terror drones and Brutes occupy two, regular vehicles take up three, while Apocalypse tanks, Magnetrons, Battle Fortresses, Masterminds, and MCVs take up six.

  +
In-game
Amphibious transports are very slow and lightly armoured. They are particularly vulnerable to Harriers and Black Eagles, which can destroy them in two hits. The Allied amphibious transport has the Light armour type set in the game's coding, as opposed to the Heavy one used by Soviet and Yuri transports, resulting in the former's lesser durability.

  +
Combined with the Allied Prism Towers and Patriot Missile Launchers, several Pillboxes could form a tough base defense system that was difficult to break. A Pillbox will remain operational even when the base power shut down (they need no external energy support, actually). Commander may need to "reassign" Pillboxes as combined assault, due to the a more mobile nature of armor, usually result in Pillbox targeting the armor first and not the infantry. Infantry assigned inside a Pillbox is immune to psychic control, save exclusive psychic attack by Yuri Prime. Supported by the likes of GI's and Guardian GI's can prove useful in holding off ground enemies especially in areas which are bottlenecks.

  +
However, Pillboxes are dedicated anti-infantry defenses, although quite durable, Soviet Rhino Tanks and Yuri Lasher tanks can still destroy them if attacking in groups. Apocalypse Tanks, with their signature superior firepower, can dismantle multiple Pillboxes in very short order. Regardless, Pillboxes are often good early on, as their armor and armaments are sufficient to hold off a single Rhino Tank and win, and even a second one, provided the commander repairs the pillbox engaged in battle and Rhino Tanks not attacking it simultaneously. They are also helpless alone against artillery or aerial units and cannot shoot through walls.
It is not known to operate after the events of the Psychic Dominator Disaster. After Cherdenko's trip to 1927, the Amphibious transports was replaced by Allied Riptide ACV and Soviet Bullfrog transport in the third iteration of the war. The Empire of the Rising Sun used the Sudden Transport, which resembled the amphibious transport the most.

  +
Pillboxes have a high rate of fire and a decent range, which makes them an ideal deterrent for Crazy Ivans or Terrorists (which have extremely low health).
Allied quotes
Note: in Red Alert 2, the Allied amphibious transport shares its quotes with the destroyer.

  +
Pillboxes are very useful for distracting AI's Tesla tanks or Apocalypses from attacking other defenses; therefore, one can defend Patriot missiles and Prism Towers by placing them within range of Pillboxes. But make sure Pillboxes are placed within range of Patriot missiles, because Pillboxes are unable to target air units (or at least in range of an IFV).

* Sentry gun (Red Alert 2)
* Originally, the names for the Allied and Soviet amphibious transports were landing craft and armored transport respectively, as seen in the game files. According to pre-release screenshots and video footage, they were only able to traverse water and load/unload units on beaches, much like Transports from the original Red Alert. These designs were present in the game long enough for the latter to appear in the game's intro sequence.

* Gattling cannon (Yuri's Revenge)
* Due to an oversight in consistency, the Yuri amphibious transport is referred to as a hover transport in the cameo.

* Judging from pre-release icons and in-game mission loading screens, after the decision to have these transports be amphibious, the Allied and Soviet amphibious transports were intended to have each others' models (the Soviet transport was supposed to look like the Allied one, and vice versa). There are still traces of each side's remap in the final icon.

** As an extension to this issue, the icon for Yuri's transport appears to be a repossessed Soviet transport (from which its coding was copied and which model it used before receiving its own visuals), but its in-game voxel is a recoloured Allied transport, despite using the model of the Soviet one in pre-release screenshots and being based upon its code. Judging by the eerily possessed-sounding quotes of the female Yuri transport captain, this design change may have been done to indicate that she was an Allied transport captain who had been mind controlled.

** The techtree visualizations in the Yuri's Revenge manual and subsequent re-release variants thereof switch the Allied and Soviet amphibious transport designs.

* A modified stock landing craft model with pieces taken from a tanker model was used for the alpha icon for Allied amphibious transport.

* All 3 types of amphibious transports sink when destroyed by a giant squid instead of blowing up normally.

* A bug occurs when used in tandem with Battle Fortress. Put any combination of units inside Battle Fortress, then while it attacks the enemy, move it inside the transport. The units inside will keep on firing even if the Battle Fortress already entered the transport. If the transport moves, the units will keep on firing from the position the Battle Fortress entered the transport.

The Pillbox is an Allied base defence structure consisting of a steel bunker and a machine gun turret. Pillboxes are a common sight around Allied bases during Third World War.

Combined with the Allied Prism Towers and Patriot Missile Launchers, several Pillboxes could form a tough base defense system that was difficult to break. A Pillbox will remain operational even when the base power shut down (they need no external energy support, actually).
