Nod Defense Class Crawler. This is the slowest type of Crawler, and the only one that can produce buildings. Though defenseless when in tier 1, it can gain 2 Obelisks of Light to defend itself when upgraded to tier 2, and even more powerful ones when upgraded to tier 3. Thanks to its speed and inability to fire when packed up, it is nearly useless as a unit in a strike force, but is very useful in defensive strategies, such as holding a TCN Node. It already has very heavy armor and high health, but it can be further upgraded to feature a shield, which can in turn be upgraded to have double power. In combination with the Enhanced Repairs upgrade, which grants an increased repair radius and repair speed, it can be rather hard to take out, especially when multiple turrets are deployed and the Crawler is churning out Centurions and infantry. Its lasers are powerful vs large armoured targets, such as the Kodiak and Mastodon, but are weak vs groups of units.
Background
With the large number of infantry that the PLA fielded, it was perhaps only natural that they would deploy defensives that relied on them. Cheap and sturdy, the Bunker allowed infantry to defend the various PLA military installations across the globe while safe from attacks that would typically prove lethal.

  +
The built-in lasers also network with any nearby Obelisks, increasing their rate of fire, range, and also possibly damage, and since normal Obelisks can be upgraded to Prism, this gives the Offense crawler a more effective counter to enemy infantry or other light units.
Game Structure
The Bunker was, effectively, a buildable and better-armored version of civilian buildings. Each Bunker could be garrisoned with up to five infantry, who were protected while inside it, even from garrison-clearing attacks. The Bunker itself was immune to EMP weapons (as it had no electronics to short out) and could be constructed surprisingly quickly. Bunkers also filled the role of an anti-tank defensive structure, as the PLA's turret-based defense, the Gatling Cannons, were only really effective against infantry and aircraft. Bunkers, like all Chinese buildings, could also be upgraded with mines to prevent fast ground assaults or suicide rushes.

While not normally used to push into hostile territory directly, the Nod Defense Crawler is still capable. Upgrade the crawler with both the mobile and stationary shields and to Tier 2, then pack it up and build an Obelisk, 2 Engineers, and 3 Black Hand infantry. Drive it directly into the target area, deploy the crawler and immediately plant the Obelisk under the shield. Use the Black Hand to dispose of any nearby units (if you have the Range Boost upgrade, you can keep the Black Hand under the shield as well), and build a Bunker for the 2 Engineers. This allows you to almost instantly establish a "beachhead" even deep inside hostile territory.
The Bunker is far more structurally sound than most buildings (having been designed exclusively for combat) and infantry can remain inside it until it is completely destroyed. Additionally, because of the threat posed to infantry in structures by some weapons systems, the Chinese designed the bunker to be able to withstand all but the most powerful garrison-clearing attacks; only the effects of a Neutron shell can penetrate its walls and injure those within.

The range of the infantrymen placed within it remained limited, however. Artillery units, such as the GLA SCUD Launcher, could destroy loaded Bunkers with impunity, as no infantry fielded in the conflict were capable of outranging such weapons. Point-defense technology could also block the missiles of Tank Hunters garrisoned within, rendering those infantrymen useless.

Variants
Due to the success of the versatility of the freestanding structure, miniaturized versions were developed for installation on units, though the space that this required meant that it could only be fitted on the PLA's heaviest vehicles.

The Overlord tank and the Helix could be upgraded with a bunker, which added fire-ports and five infantry garrison slots to each. These bolstered each unit's already-impressive firepower, and could cover the abilities that each unit was lacking. These smaller designs lacked the protection from chemical weapons that its stationary version had, however, and left the infantry vulnerable to chemical-based attacks. Additionally, infantry within a downed Helix would die along with it.

General Shin Fai deployed a version of the Helix dubbed the Assault Helix, which had an increased carrying capacity but only allowed a Bunker upgrade in lieu of the typical three choices.

General Fai found the original design lacking for his specialized forces, and so designed a new version dubbed the "Fortified Bunker". Though ironically not any better armored than the original and slightly more expensive to build, it had double the capacity (ten) and, when paired with his elite men, were extremely lethal to nearly everything. Additionally, his were built with land mines pre-installed, and could be further upgraded with Neutron mines.

Nod Defense Crawler deployed

Deployed Nod Defense Crawler with two Obelisks of light.

The built-in lasers also network with any nearby Obelisks, increasing their rate of fire, range, and also possibly damage, and since normal Obelisks can be upgraded to Prism, this gives the Offense crawler a more effective counter to enemy infantry or other light units.
