Command & Conquer mode, abbreviated C&C mode, is the main multiplayer game mode of Command & Conquer: Renegade. Players are divided into two teams: GDI and Nod, with their own base. Each base functions in a fashion similar to a typical RTS base: harvesters gather Tiberium and take it to the Tiberium refinery for processing, power plants supply power to other base structures, etc. Players can purchase different character classes, vehicles, and equipment with credits earned from combat or Tiberium processed by the refinery.
The goal is to either destroy all enemy buildings, get the most points before the match time runs out, or place a superweapon beacon on the enemy's pedestal.[1]
Mechanics[]
Purchase Terminal[]
The Purchase Terminal is where the player can purchase characters, vehicles, and superweapon beacons. They are located in every main building, and can be accessed regardless if the building is destroyed or not.
Superweapon Beacons[]
When placed anywhere on the battlefield, the superweapon targeting beacons will begin a minute countdown before the team's superweapon fires, causing devastation in that area. If placed in an enemy building and the countdown reaches zero, the building will be immediately destroyed. After a beacon is placed, it can be disabled by the opposing team's engineers with their repair guns before the countdown ends.
The GDI team can purchase the GS-2 beacon for an Ion Cannon strike, while the Nod team can purchase the Retribution beacon for a nuclear missile strike.
Endgame Pedestal[]
The Endgame Pedestal is where superweapon beacons are placed to end the round. There is one located in the GDI barracks and one in the Hand of Nod. If an enemy players manages to place a beacon here and the countdown completes, the round is over, so the barracks must always be guarded.
Variants[]
- All-Out War (AOW): C&C mode with a time limit, typically between 30 minutes to an hour. If the time expires, the team with the most points wins regardless of how many base buildings remain.
- Marathon: C&C mode without a time limit. This means certain aspects of the game mode, like earning the most points for the team, are obsolete. Thus, players are entirely focused on destruction of the enemy base.
