This page contains the Command & Conquer Wiki's transcription guideline. It describes how content should be presented on a transcript page.
  • Guidelines describe desired etiquette and common practice in the creation, editing and organization of articles on this wiki.
  • Any registered editor is free to edit this page to improve its readability as long as the essence of the article remains unchanged.

The purpose of transcription is to provide a centralized source for referencing transcribed dialogue from cutscenes and missions.

General transcription guidelines[]

  • Accuracy. When entering dialogue text only type the words spoken during the dialogue. If you are not able to understand what was being said, type in its place "[Unintelligable]" and add the category "Transcript pages with unintelligible dialogue". If there are grammatical mistakes in the speaker's dialogue (sometimes intentional by non-English characters), do not correct their grammar. Type the actual words spoken.
    • If there are official subtitles provided, these can be copied over instead. However, if there are typos present in the subtitles, the actual correct dialogue should take precedence.
  • Relevancy. Transcript pages should only contain transcribed dialogue, described actions, and on-screen text. Any other information such as trivia should be on the respective mission page.

Transcription format[]

  • Speaker labels are words used to identify the speaker. If the speaker has a full name, the label would just include either their last name or the name they are mostly referred to as. The speaker label should be bold and followed by a colon and space, then followed by their dialogue text. For example, the speaker label of Mark Jamison Sheppard would be Sheppard; while the label of Eva Lee would be Eva, as her first name is most commonly used to identify her.
    • If the speaker is in a peculiar state or mood, it can be provided next to the speaker label, bold and surrounded by parenthesis. For example, the label for a drunk Ben Carville would be Carville (drunk).
  • Any actions that occur should be in italics.
    • Any specific actions performed during dialogue should be in italics and surrounded by square brackets.
  • On-screen text and captions should be surrounded by square brackets.
    • Major on-screen texts (i.e. titles) are bolded as well.

It is recommended for transcript pages to be created according to the following layout:

  • Introductory paragraph: A sentence or paragraph providing the cutscene or mission being transcribed and what game is it from.
  • Mission specific sections
    • Introduction: this section includes the transcript of the introductory cutscene.
    • Mission selection/Loading screen: includes the text present on mission selection or loading screen segments.
    • Briefing: includes the text briefing.
    • Mission script: includes the transcript of the in-game dialogue and text present. See the section "Mission scripts".
    • Ending: if the mission is the final one of the campaign, this section includes the transcript of the ending cutscene.
  • Transcript: for pages exclusive to cutscenes, this section includes the whole transcript of the cutscene
  • References: this includes the <references/> tag.

Mission scripts[]

The "Mission script" section provides a comprehensive transcript of the in-game dialogue and presented text unique to the mission.

  • Dialogue, actions and text are ordered by a default "happy path" playthrough of the mission (the player goes through each objective successfully and then completes the mission).
  • Conditional events and failures are presented using a definition list. The condition is typed next to the semicolon, followed by the dialogue and actions next to the colon.
  • Dialogue and actions from transmissions are also written with a definition list. The text "Incoming transmission..." is typed next to the semicolon, followed by the transmission's dialogue and actions next to the colon.
  • Any dialogue or text present in the normal gameplay loop (i.e. unit quotations) should be omitted.
