Core of the Problem is the final mission in the Nod campaign of Firestorm.[2]

Briefing[]

This is it Commander! Take out CABAL fast and hard: No mercy and no surrender. Find a way to get inside his defenses and take out the core. GDI forces are distracting CABAL and now is the perfect time to crush CABAL once and for all.

  • First Objective: Build your base and survive the initial onslaught from CABAL.
  • Second Objective: Capture the 3 control stations to shut down the laser fences and firestorm defense system protecting CABAL.
  • Third Objective: Destroy CABAL's core.

Background[]

Both of CABAL's auxiliary bases were destroyed by Nod and GDI. The time had come to end the rise of the machines once and for all. However CABAL still had heavy defenses to protect its core, and would not go down without a heavy fight.

Walkthrough[]

Speed run[]

It is possible to shut down CABAL's Firestorm Defense without capturing the three control stations. Energy-based weapons, such as Devil's Tongue, can fire through the fiery protection of Firestorm wall sections. Thus, you can destroy the four Advanced Power Plants that are powering CABAL's defense. This approach is officially supported because CABAL reacts to it with an appropriate spoken line:

Miscalculation in enemy capabilities; compensation initiated.

Using this approach, it is possible to complete this mission under eight minutes. To do so:

  1. Capture the Radar and Hand of Nod near the starting position as soon as possible, and build your base in the area. Construct Refineries, a War Factory, and the Nod tech center.
  2. Produce at least four Devil's Tongues. Continue producing more and send them into the field as they get ready.
  3. By this time, the game has revealed the location of CABAL's core. Send your Devil's Tongues to the northeastern corner of the map, north of CABAL's core. 10 infantry units can act as escort against CABAL's patrols if you bring them along via Subterranean APCs.
  4. Destroy CABAL's Advanced Power Plants with Devil's Tongues.
  5. Hide until the Core Defender to leave the area. Devil's Tongues can submerge.
  6. Destroy CABAL before the Core Defender levels your base.

Dealing with CABAL's missile base[]

CABAL's missile base is to the southeast. A small patrol of Reapers protect it. Send a Limpet Mine to scout the base and draw away those Reapers. The floating mine can dodge their missile volleys as long as it keeps moving. Once the Reapers are away, send a Subterranean APC filled appropriate infantry type (Engineers or Rocket Soldiers) to capture or destroy the base.
