The fire sale is a gameplay mechanic found in Command & Conquer: Red Alert, Tiberian Sun, and Red Alert 2 as well as their expansion packs. A fire sale causes a house to sell off all the structures it owns. Afterwards, all remaining units the house owns will engage enemy units until until one either side has been destroyed. This includes non-combat units such as Ore Trucks or Harvesters.
Fire sales are untilized to accelerate the end of a mission, and frequently trigger when an AI-controlled house has lost all of its production structures, and thus will not provide an ongoing challenge to the player. However, the infantry resulting from a fire sale may pose a threat to the player depending on the circumstances.
From Command & Conquer: Generals on, fire sales are no longer used. Instead, missions frequently end when the player has destroyed a number of AI key structures.
