The First Spice War was a major conflict in the Dune Universe waged by the major Houses of the Landsraad. The war was decreed by Padishah Emperor Frederick IV, who issued a challenge that the House which can produce the most spice will control its source, Arrakis. In reality, Frederick actually wished for the Houses to destroy each other so he can gain more power for himself.
It is the main focus of Dune II and Dune 2000's singleplayer campaign.
