CNCTW Hallucinogenic Grenades Cameo

Hallucinogenic grenades are chemical grenades utilizing an unknown compound that were used by Nod Confessors leading Militia squads during and around the time of the Third Tiberium War. The Confessor Cabal teams of the Black Hand also utilized these, though as the groups of soldiers required coordination to maximize their impact, they had to be manually ordered to throw them by their overseeing officer. The grenades themselves can make any enemy soldier panic and hallucinate that his allies are his enemies, and they will in turn attack their former allies, or even on occasion, each other (if they are within a squad). Even Zone Troopers are affected, which implies that the grenades are capable of either penetrating armor, or can bypass any atmosphere filtration system in effect. Exact mechanisms are currently unknown.

As powerful of a weapon it may seem, however, their relegation to being a secondary weapon means that the Confessors are simply not as adept with it as GDI grenadiers are with their explosives, who always deploy similar (albeit not chemical-filled) weapons on the battlefield. The process of pulling out the grenade's pin and hurling it at the enemy means that there is a time gap between when the Confessor begins using the weapon and when it actually impacts. Observant commanders can notice this process and reposition his infantry accordingly to minimize its effect, or order a direct attack on the offending infantry squad.

It is speculated that these grenades might be related to the weapons utilized by Toxin Soldiers against civilians during the Firestorm Crisis. The chemical used by Toxin Soldiers were also effective against infantry but not so against vehicles or tanks - another trait the Confessors' chemical weapons shares with it.

Care must be taken when using them since the gas affects anyone who comes into contact with it, friend or foe. This has often led to unfortunate incidents in the past, where commanders lost control of militants with confessors who used the grenades at inadvisably close ranges and started attacking each other in panic. Ironically, this means that sometimes a viable tactic to destroy a group of Confessor-upgraded militants was to simply charge them with a fast infantry unit; the Confessors would attempt to use the hallucinogenic grenades on the infantrymen in question but accidentally hit their own brothers instead.
