Mexico, officially the United Mexican States, was a Spanish-speaking country in North America, south of the United States. It was one of the world's most populous country, and one of the top 20 economies in the world.

History[]

Part of "Mesoamerica", Mexico was home to many ancient civilizations including the Mayas (in the Yucatán peninsula) and the Aztecs, whose capital city Tenochtitlan is buried under modern Mexico City. The Spanish arrived in the 16th century and proceeded to defeat the indigenous people of Mexico and colonise the region. Mexico gained Independence from Spain on September 16, 1810 and was recognized by Spain as a nation on September 27, 1810.

During the mid 1800s Mexico went to war with the United States over border disputes. The Mexicans lost that war and as a result of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (1848) Mexico lost one third of its surface area to the United States. The country suffered various foreign intervention, revolutions, civil wars, dictatorships and periods of economic crises during the latter half of the 19th century and the 20th century.

Red Alert Universe[]

Second World War[]

Mexico City was part of an immediate scandal where 200,000,000 Soviet agents around the world had infiltrated Pan African, Pan Asian and other governments.[1]

Third World War (first iteration)[]

When civil war broke out in Mexico, Romanov's army moved in to protect WSA interests, while the U.S. Department of Defense thought little of the conflict.[2]

This proved nearly fatal, as once the USSR was given the 'go ahead', they propped-up a pro-Soviet communist government in Mexico, as a member of the World Socialist Alliance. The communist Mexican government allowed the Soviets to deploy their land-based military forces in Mexican territory, under the cover story that they were putting down local rebellions against the official communist government of Mexico. This put the bulk of Soviet land forces within reach of the United States' southern border, putting them in prime position to launch an invasion. Mexico's instability paved the way for Premier Romanov to instigate the invasion of the United States.

Mexico was not, however, an entirely willing Soviet ally, and was deeply divided in the war. It is strongly implied that the pro-communist government only stayed in power due to Soviet support. There were numerous pro-Allied Mexican freedom fighters which resisted the official pro-communist government throughout the war, notably the large group of Mexican freedom fighters operating in the Yucatan peninsula.

The Uprising[]

As of the third iteration of the war, their political affiliations are unknown. During The Uprising, Soviet Underground forces under their Commander and Dasha Fedorovich attacked the military headquarters of FutureTech Corporation.

Tiberium Universe[]

First Tiberium War[]

During the First Tiberium War, Mexico sided with the Global Defense Initiative. However, with increased Tiberium proliferation and breakdown of law and order in the aftermath of that war, the country became largely dominated by the Brotherhood of Nod. From Mexico, Nod entered the southwestern United States.

Second Tiberium War[]

The Second Tiberium War saw much of Mexico turned into a battlefield, as GDI and their Forgotten allies attacked south from their holdings in the United States and northern Mexico in a campaign against Nod under the command of Slavik and Vega in Central America. Eventually, Nod presence in Mexico was destroyed, but at a high price.

Third Tiberium War[]

By now, large tracts of the country has been terraformed by Tiberium. The Interbellum accelerated this process, and the accompanying collapse of social and political order. Most of Mexico was declared a Yellow Zone, a war-torn region where people lived in poverty and in fear of Tiberium poisoning. GDI Tiberium eradication program has achieved notable success in Baja California, enough for that region of Mexico to be classified as a Blue Zone. During the Third Tiberium War, this Blue Zone came under attack from Nod, which has apparently rebuilt its presence in other parts of Mexico.
