Mini-Gunner reporting for duty!
- Mini-Gunner leaving the Barracks

Mini-Gunners were elite Red Guards equipped with hand-held miniguns, deployed exclusively by Chinese General Shin Fai.

Game unit[]

Strategy[]

Bullets for everyone!
- Mini-Gunner on the attack

The Mini-Gunner is highly versatile. It can be essentially considered an all-round improved Red Guard, with a higher rate of fire and the ability to engage air units. They can serve as a supplementary source of air defense (especially considering Shin Fai does not have Gattling Tanks), or be deployed in overwhelming numbers for a devastating offense. Their ability to target aircraft and drones makes large numbers of Mini-Gunners somewhat difficult to engage at a distance, whether in the open or inside vehicle that allows firing from within.

Eight Mini-gunners would be delivered with the purchase of Shin Fai's customized Assault Troop Crawler from his War Factory.

Counters[]

We're losing ground!
- Mini-Gunner under fire

As with Red Guards, Mini-Gunners remain soft targets and can be destroyed by appropriate units easily, such as Toxin Rebels, Jarmen Kell, Pathfinders, Flashbangs and artillery like Nuke Cannons. While they can handle lightly armored vehicles, they require considerable support to take out heavy armor. They require a bit of time to spin up their weapons, leaving them open to counterattack, being quite vulnerable out in the open and without anti-vehicle support.

Mini-Gunners are also far more expensive to deploy. Despite retaining the Red Guards' long training time of 10 seconds, they are not trained in pairs and cost more.

Trivia[]

  • The Mini-Gunner's weapon has an unused weapon bonus present in the games INI files with a code comment, suggesting they, too, would have benefitted from the Chain Guns upgrade. However, there is no weapon bonus upgrade trigger in the Mini-Gunners INI coding for the bonus to take effect and so goes unused.
  • The Mini-Gunner uses the sentry drone machine gun weapon sound when attacking ground units and the Gattling tank weapon sound when attacking aircraft.
  • The unit's icon depicts the Type 56-II infantry automatic rifle (Chinese AKM variant) rather than their namesake rotary machine guns.
  • Chinese military history has no recorded adoption of Miniguns intended for ground infantry roles, providing heavy fire support for squads were instead fulfilled by their issued LMGs (Light Machine Gun) of the time, in this case the machine gun variant of the Type 95 rifles.
