The Orca attack aircraft is a tactical bomber appearing in Tiberium Wars and Kane's Wrath, available to all GDI commanders.
Background[]
This iteration of the Orca, yet another descendant of the long line of GDI aircraft under the label, first saw deployment during the Third Tiberium War when immediate tactical strikes were required without delay. It appears to be a modified version of the mainline Orca gunship deployed by GDI commanders, boasting oversized supercharged engines on articulated mounts and a modified pilot cockpit.
Game Effect[]
These Orcas are only seen when a commander calls in an Orca Strike - a support power made available when a GDI airfield is built, and is deployed at the cost of 500 credits.
One summoned to the battlefield, they will fly from one of the edges of the map to the selected location, bomb the selected area, and then fly off again. The Orca Strike will only damage the selected location (and thus is highly ineffective against moving targets), and a beacon, deployed in the area to guide the pilots, can reveal to the enemy the bombing target.
The trio of Orcas deal respectable damage to the targeted location; while they cannot hope to outright destroy anything heavily armored, they will still inflict an irksomely large amount of damage (especially on structures) and will force the enemy to waste time and credits repairing the afflicted assets.
Their armor is also nothing to scoff at, and though they can be downed before reaching the target (effectively preventing any damage), it takes quite a bit of firepower to do so.
As ZOCOM's Orcas utilize sonic grenades in lieu of standard missiles, their versions of this aircraft also undergo this modification. These grenades do slightly more damage than their standard counterparts.
AI Behavior[]
In skirmish mode, GDI AIs use this strike on opposing players' Power Plants. Although this will not destroy one outright, it will cause significant damage.
Trivia[]
- An Orca attack aircraft was seen along with a group of A-15 Orcas defending the outskirts of Sydney during the initial Scrin invasion.
- In the Worldbuilder, the Orca attack aircraft is actually called, "The Mini Orca". The Orca attack aircraft also has a striking similarity in appearance to the Orca from the First Tiberium War.
