U.N. funding has been re-established. You now have access to a new aircraft, the Orca. This unit is to be used to scout the immediate area. Destroy all Nod presence in this region.
- Mission briefing

Orcastration is the tenth mission in the GDI campaign of Tiberian Dawn.[1]

Background[]

GDI's victories in Hungary had placed it in a strong position to continue their offensive into Nod Europe. At the same time the Ways and Means Commitee had finally been persuaded by Mark Jamison Sheppard to reestablish GDI funding.

As GDI forces advanced past Trieste, Italy and Arad, Romania, they encountered Nod turrets guarding the valleys. These fortifications caused the GDI forces advance to grind to a halt. To get things moving again, Mark Jamison Sheppard, now back from the UN and in command once again, used his UN funding to purchase new ORCAs for the offensive.

New units[]

  • Orca

Events[]

At both locations, GDI commanders were given access to ORCAs. With the help of these crafts, they were able to clear the long valleys leading to the Nod bases of Turrets. They then proceeded to use the forces at their disposal to eliminate the Nod bases in the valleys and secure control of the areas.

Aftermath[]

Greeklanding

The GDI lands in Greece.

The fall of the fortified valleys to GDI forces led swiftly to the fall of Slovenia and Romania to GDI forces in their entirety.

But the victory had not come without cost and the Nod forces were still strong and now enjoyed a certain amount of strategic depth. So GDI forces devised a new strategy designed to break the oncoming deadlock, to land forces in Greece and restore their control over that country. It was hoped that once Greece had been reclaimed Nod forces could be attacked on multiple fronts and finally defeated.

Walkthrough[]

Deploy the MCV then get tanks and humvees. The new unit for the mission is the Orca. Get them to destroy the turrets but watch out for SAMs and rocket soldiers. The Nod base has a lot of SAMs, and contains an Obelisk, so the best way to tackle that is either a pinpointed strike with Orcas against the Obelisk followed by an immediate assault with medium tanks, or an infiltration with an APC with Engineers into the back of the base. After slipping the APC past the defenses, a Bazooka or Grenadier will be needed to punch through the walls to allow access to the vital buildings inside the base.

Demo variant[]

The game's demo contains an edited version of the Slovenia (A) version of this mission. There are some differences with the retail version:

  • You begin with six Mammoth tanks, instead of two medium tanks and two Humvees.
  • The demo mission only has two SAM sites at the north of the base, whereas the full mission includes two additional ones in the south.
  • There are some slight changes to the terrain, and there is much more tiberium available.
  • For some reason, the village in the lower left hand corner of the screen is not allied with GDI, meaning they are seen as enemies, and are hostile to the player.

Trivia[]

  • Although the city of Trieste is in Italy, Sheppard mistakenly refers to it as a Slovenian city. Further in the text, the area will be mentioned as Slovenian, as he mainly referred to the area surrounding Trieste, which is mostly Slovenian territory.
