“ | I'll puncture the next thing that moves. - Quad cannon assembled from the Arms dealer. |
” |
The quad cannon was a Soviet-era weapon (the ZSU-23-4 Shilka's modified AZP-23 Amur mounted on the back of a half-track) recycled by the GLA by the time of the GLA Conflict. It was the organization's primary choice as an economical anti-infantry and anti-aircraft vehicle.
Background[]
A half-track vehicle equipped with four heavy machine guns on a rotating turret, the quad cannon can tear through soft and lightly-armored targets. Especially effective in groups, the quad cannon is cheap and easy to acquire through an arms dealer. Quad cannon crews can upgrade their weapon sets by salvaging parts from destroyed enemy vehicles.
Game unit[]
Inexpensive to acquire, the quad cannon can quickly be deployed in divisions of a considerable size, and provides very adequate protection to units lacking in anti-infantry and anti-aircraft protection. Quad cannons are by no means weakly armored, especially for a light vehicle.
Nevertheless, quad cannons are rather ineffective against heavy armor. Although they have average range, artillery and rogue rocket buggies can destroy them without exposing themselves to the quad cannons. Despite its anti-air specialty, it is unable to fully counter Aurora and Aurora Alpha bombers.

Salvage[]
The quad cannon can also be upgraded by salvaging parts from the battlefield, resulting in better performance.
- Its first salvage upgrade decreases its damage slightly (from 10 to 8), but doubles the firing rate.
- Its second salvage again attempts to double its firing rate while the damage output stays at 8.
Note: Due to an oversight by the developers, Quad Cannons upgraded with scrap actually become less effective than unscrapped Quads once they gain veterancy. The reason for this is that the weapon maxes out its firing rate either with Hero status (rank 3) or the first salvage upgrade (the minimum delay between shots that the game allows is 67 msec), meaning that the salvage upgrades do not provide any improvement but instead solely reduce the damage by 2 (10 -> 8). Thus, a fully trained rank 3 Quad Cannon does more damage than a fully salvage-upgraded rank 3 Quad Cannon, while both of them have the same rate of fire. Even a non-salvage upgraded rank 2 Quad can outmatch a fully salvaged rank 2 Quad because the former does higher damage per second. See the table below for a better overview.
Rank 0 | Rank 1 | Rank 2 | Rank 3 | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Damage | 10 | 11 | 12 | 13 |
Rate of Fire (msec between shots) | 133
(133,333...) (15 shots per two second) |
67 (66,666...) (15 shots per second) | 67 (66,666...) (15 shots per second) | 67 (66,666...) (15 shots per second) |
Damage with Salvage upgrades (1 and 2 use the same damage value) | 8 | 8.8 | 9.6 | 10.4 |
Rate of Fire with Salvage upgrade 1 | 50, but gets capped at and is effectively 67 instead | Capped at 67 | Capped at 67 | Capped at 67 |
Rate of Fire with Salvage upgrade 2 | 25, but gets capped at and is effectively 67 instead | Capped at 67 | Capped at 67 | Capped at 67 |
Campaign[]
A unique quad cannon version used by Prince Kassad in the campaign has an exclusive upgrade.
When purchased at the Palace, this upgrade allows Quad Cannons to kill infantry with one shot.

Changelog[]
- Zero Hour patch 1.03:
- now 50% more resistant to fire damage.
- damage with the AP upgrade is now sequentially higher after each weapon crate upgrade - previously, damage was slightly reduced after the second upgrade
