San Francisco was one of the most populous cities in California. It was located on the tip of the San Francisco Peninsula in the United States and is the focal point of the San Francisco Bay Area.

In 1776, the Spanish settled the tip of the San Francisco peninsula, establishing a fort at the Golden Gate and a mission named for Francis of Assisi. The California Gold Rush in 1848 propelled the city into a period of rapid growth. After being devastated by the 1906 earthquake and fire, San Francisco was quickly rebuilt.

Tiberium universe[]

With the advent of the Tiberium age and the evolution of Tiberium in the 2040s, the city was gradually overrun by Tiberium, becoming a hostile Red Zone (in contrast to most of California, which was a Blue Zone). The Golden Gate Bridge survived the growth of the element and stands as a monument to the once great city.

Red Alert universe[]

San Francisco was one of the first cities to be invaded by the Soviet Union during Third World War. During the opening actions of the war, the Golden Gate Bridge was rendered inaccessible when the Soviets destroyed the entrance from the San Francisco side. While the city was under Soviet rule, Yuri secretly constructed a Psychic Dominator on Alcatraz. When the war ended with the Soviet defeat, Yuri revealed himself and his plans to mind control the world. Upon learning of this, President Michael Dugan ordered an airstrike to destroy the Alcatraz device, but only succeeded in damaging a nuclear reactor With most of the world under mind-control, the Allies used a time machine built by Einstein to travel back in time to stop Yuri.

Upon arriving, the Allies found themselves in the midst of the Soviet invasion of the city, but swiftly dealt with the invaders. With the immediate area secured, Agent Tanya stormed Alcatraz Island and destroyed the Psychic Dominator, which proved to be a major setback in Yuri's plans.

The city likely survived the war largely unharmed thanks to the Allies' intervention as a result of time travel.
