For King and Country!
- Spy

Spies are British operatives used by the Allies to gather information and infiltrate Soviets bases in Red Alert 1.

Background

Spies are well-versed in mimicking the mannerisms, language, and behavior of enemy personnel, walking through an entire base without a single enemy guard realizing that there was an intruder. However, the bane of spies are Soviet attack dogs which are capable of literally sniffing out the spies and killing them.

Legacy

The Allies continued using them during Third World War and its second iteration, which was also used as a sabotage unit to wreak havoc in enemy bases. This time, however, they were also able to steal credits from enemy commanders, which removed the need for Thieves.

Game unit

Master of disguise, the Spy can slip by enemy forces undetected. A versatile unit, the Spy can gather many kinds of information on an enemy player – what they’re building, how much money they have, how many units they have, etc. Beware – Attack Dogs are not fooled by the Spy’s appearance.
- Red Alert manual(src)

Spies are great scouts and can be used to gather intelligence on the enemy base, should he fail to train attack dogs to protect his base. Spies always appear as Rifle Infantry wearing the house colors of the player that observes them, so they can be detected by a cautious human player. Computer opponents, however, rely on Attack Dogs only, or sometimes unintentionally run over an enemy Spy with a vehicle. Players Allied to the owner of a Spy are not exempt from its disguise effect, and will also see a Spy resembling one for their Rifle Infantry.

Infiltration effects

In most cases, the effect of infiltration is identical to both factions. Soviet spies are able to provide more detailed intelligence with some buildings, however Soviet commanders cannot train spies without a captured Allied barracks first.
