Spies are Allied infiltrators in Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 and its expansion, Uprising.
Background[]
Allied spies were masters of disguise, capable of impersonating any friendly or enemy infantry, granting them access to the most heavily guarded enemy bases. While inside, spies were able to sabotage infrastructure in a number of ways, such as disrupting a base's power supply, stealing resources from an enemy refinery, or disabling the enemy's high-tech units and production.
In addition, it was standard operating procedure for spies to carry large sums of cash for bribing enemy troops. The spy's innate knowledge of human psychology, coupled with a surplus of foreign currency, makes a persuasive combination that even the most powerful enemy units have difficulty resisting. In practice, spies may cause large numbers of enemy forces to suddenly turn on their former commanders.
However, spies were trained to operate without any conventional weapons and their only defense was to avoid detection. In addition, modern armies have specially-trained units that can detect spies even when disguised. Some of these, such as attack dogs and Soviet war bears, were also trained to deal with spies in an efficient, if somewhat messy, fashion.
Game unit[]
“ | For King and Country! - Spy |
” |
The spy is an unarmed infiltration unit that can be employed to disrupt enemy bases, stall enemy attacks, or steal money from refineries to fund the Allied war effort.
The spy's bribe ability is best used on high-tier enemy units such as the Apocalypse tank and the King Oni in order make the most out of its $1000 cost.
The best counters against spies are detectors specialized against infantry, especially aircraft like the Twinblade and the Sky-Wing as spies cannot bribe air units.
Abilities[]
Bribe The Spy can convert all nearby enemy ground units to the Allied cause. However, this ability will not work on commandos, heroic units, and others such as certain naval units. Costs: $1000

Infiltration effects[]
- Production structure: Temporarily disables production of all structures of that type owned by the infiltrated player, and temporarily grants vision of that player's units produced by the type of structure infiltrated. Aircraft cannot land at infiltrated airfields.
- Power structure: Temporarily reduces power to zero, slowing down production and disabling all base defenses and super weapons. The effect lasts longer when infiltrating a super reactor.
- Ore refinery: Steals 2000 credits. The player gains the full amount even if the enemy does not have that much.
- Construction Yard and expansion structure: Temporarily disables enemy radar and reveals the enemy's vision. Permanently grants vision of the infiltrated structure.
- Technology structure: Temporarily disables all tier 3 units, causes tier 3 aircraft (i.e. Kirov Airships) to crash, destroying them instantly.
- Superweapon: Resets timer.
- Crusher crane: No adverse effects.
Changelog[]
- Red Alert 3 beta patch 1.5: added experience levels
- Red Alert 3 patch 1.05: fixed a bug where spies would retain the Tesla effect after bribing a unit while disguised as a Tesla trooper
- Red Alert 3 patch 1.11: EVA announcements will no longer play when a disguised spy enters a base
