Tick tock, Commander. I've got a Proton Collider with your name on it, and there's not a bloody thing you can do about it.
- Giles Price

The Final Countdown is a side challenge in Commander's Challenge.

Briefing[]

It is a dangerous world we live in indeed, if a man such as that Commander Giles is authorized to use the Proton Collider. Why not teach him a few safety lessons for everyone's sake? We should learn much about the Allies' superweapons program in the process. Just be careful - this place is far enough away from civilization that Giles isn't going to think twice about using that thing against you, if he has enough time to get it warmed up. Worse, it seems he may have access to more than one...

Overview[]

  • Giles will build a Proton Collider at each of his five island bases, which are his only means of offense.
  • Giles will build Vindicators and Apollo fighters to defend his base against player units.

Strategies[]

  • Since Giles will rely solely on base defenses to protect his bases, infiltrating his power plants would render them completely defenseless. However, since he does not build infantry, spies cannot disguise themselves unless another unit destroys one of the structures and pulls away, leaving the resultant Peacekeeper alive. Therefore, a shinobi and Yuriko combo is recommended: shinobis to shut down defenses and Yuriko to demolish the rest of the base. Focus on power structures and construction yards first to stop the defenses from regaining power.
  • Heavy bombardment ships have a massive advantage here, since they can outrange all base defenses, and usually have more than enough health to tank some Vindicator attacks while picking away at Airbases and Construction Yards.
  • As the Soviets, Natasha can be put to great use, because she can outrange even the Spectrum Tower at Heroic Veterancy. Focus on destroying the Construction Yard and Airbases so Giles cannot deploy Spectrum Towers or Vindicators to eliminate her easily. Once she destroys enough Power Plants to fully disable a base, Stingrays can be sent to finish it off while she focuses on stopping the other Proton Colliders.

Trivia[]

The name of the mission is a reference to the 1986 song of the same name by the Swedish rock band Europe.
