Tratos plays back footage of Umagon suffering in a straitjacket.

GDI forces in Cairo pack up and prepare for Tacitus retrieval.

Video uplink changes to transmissions to Southern Cross.
GDI personnel: Say again Southern Cross, you're breaking up! We're under heavy sniper fire, but the data matrix and Kane's are ready- [Static]

The Kodiak arrives at the Cairo base. The Tacitus is loaded onto the ship. Weather conditions worsen.
GDI personnel: The package is being loaded. Repeat, the package is being loaded! HURRY- [Static]
EVA: Accessing... video com sat uplink signal lost.
Cortez: I need that feed now! What the hell is going on?!
EVA: I am unable to sustain a link with Philadelphia. Attempting to reroute signal.
Kodiak's final flight[]
Video uplink shows Kodiak taking off.
Chandra: Way clear, five-by-five. Thanks Southern Cross. Stand clear for Kodiak dust-off. Watch yourselves people. Heading three-zero-niner at north by north-west.
Weather conditions worsen into an ion storm as the Kodiak is in transit.
Chandra: Southern Cross, come in. Experiencing increased high ion particle activity.
The Kodiak is struck by thunder.

The Kodiak crashes. Video uplink turns to static.
Desperate Measures[]
EVA: Unable to reestablish contact. Image lost. Stand by. Accessing GDI command base, Southern Cross.
Cortez: Commander, you've been recalled from Operation Lazarus to head up the Firestorm Taskforce. We've got a crisis here. We're at OPCON 2 Tactical Alert. EVA, bring the Commander up to speed.
EVA: Initiating global search for Kodiak location. All global satellites, down. Contact with the Philadelphia, down.
Cortez: Southern Cross is assuming GDI global command until the situation can be rectified. Be advised, what you are about to see is classified, eyes only. This is the Tacitus data matrix. Our scientist's claim Kane's Tiberium experiments were conducted using knowledge gained from the device. Unfortunately, the Kodiak crashed off the coast of North Africa while transporting the device. EVA, do you have that report online yet?
EVA: The Kodiak's beacon has allowed us to pinpoint its location. Uploading tactical data now.
Cortez: Tacitus was en route to Tratos when the Kodiak went down. Tratos is the only person that can translate the damn thing. This is a straightforward recovery operation, Commander. Get to the site, locate any survivors, recover the Tacitus, return to base.
Briefing[]
The Kodiak was lost en route to the Philadelphia. We believe it has crashed somewhere in the area. The Kodiak was carrying the recently recovered Tacitus when it went down. Take a small team and locate the crash site and determine if the Kodiak can be repaired. Recover the Tacitus at all costs. Be advised, there are reports that NOD forces and hostile Tiberian life forms have been sighted in the area. The ion storm is still in full force, so advanced units cannot be used.

- First Objective: Find the Kodiak and determine if it can be salvaged.
- Second Objective: Recover the Tacitus and return it to the pickup zone.

Second objective[]
[Tacitus recovered and loaded on the truck. Proceed to the beacon.]
EVA: Tacitus acquired. Proceed to beacon for extraction.
