The war miner is the Soviet resource gatherer in Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge.
Official description[]
“ | The counterpart to the Allied Chrono Miner, the main purpose of the War-Miner is collecting Ore to be processed into credits. Once processed by a refinery, the Ore allows for the production of both units and structures. Unlike the Allied Chrono Miner, the War-Miner is not completely defenceless. It is armed with a sizeable mounted gun, which gives it the ability to protect itself from minor threats. Like all heavy vehicles, it can also crush enemy infantry by driving over them. - Red Alert 2 manual(src) |

Game unit[]
Only requiring the placement of a machine gun, the war miner has lots of allotted space to stow ore. This difference benefits the Soviets, as their war miner can carry up to 1000 credits (or up to 2000 if assigned to a gem field). However, it is unable to teleport to Refineries and eject Parasites, unlike its Allied chrono miner counterpart, though it is made up with the fact it is armed. The light machine gun is effective only against infantry, especially types without anti-tank capabilities. They are also good for picking off random snipers.
Moreover, the war miner is one of the only few units resistant to all forms of mind control, this even includes Yuri Prime. Therefore, they can make solid counters against psychic units.
When elite, its machine gun upgrades into a powerful auto-cannon which is effective against tanks, infantry, and structures, and can easily ward off a squadron of GIs or initiates, especially if it finds the powerup crates. Like all heavy vehicles, it can also crush most enemy infantry by driving over them.
In general, war miners make better distracting units than Rhino tanks due to their higher health. Because of this, they are less vulnerable to splash damage.
If the war miner is down to its last hitpoint, it will take around 7 minutes on normal game speed to return to full health. If the unit is a veteran, it will gain 50% more health, but the duration to self-heal back to full health remains the same.
Quotes[]
Note: in Red Alert 2, the war miner shares its quotes with the Rhino heavy tank, except when ordered to harvest, which it does silently.
