For other uses, see Paradrop. |
Paradrop is a support power in Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge that calls a transport plane to drop six G.I.s for the Allies, nine conscripts for the Soviets, or six initiates for Yuri to a selected area of the battlefield. The transport plane can be shot down at any time, and the parachuting infantry is completely vulnerable to anti-aircraft fire until they land. The support power is available to anyone with an access to a tech airport.
The United States of America has access to the similar airborne support power, which calls eight G.I.s instead of six, and is available as soon as an Airforce Command Headquarters structure is built (only America players actually get to build the AMRADR that supplies that SuperWeapon, however it's still a regularily-capturable building). American players can still capture a tech airport as well to get access to the standard paradrop ability which is separate from the Airborne support power, therefore getting the unique ability to drop fourteen infantrymen on the battlefield either at the same target or 2 different targets at the same time.
In the campaign, other infantry units were observed to parachute in certain situations. Those without an appropriate sprite, like the desolator, use a standing one instead. In the missions Big Apple and Home Front, Grizzly battle tanks were seen paradropping as well.
Note those tanks and infantry are paradropped not via this SuperWeapon/support power, but via map triggers; it's not possible to paradrop tanks via this SuperWeapon (see [[Trivia]]).
Being a support power rather than a unit or structure, the American airborne support power is the only country specialty that is not accessible through a tech secret lab (though one could make the American ACHQ a bonus via Secret Lab like the Grand Cannon is).
AI behavior[]
The AI will use Paradrop/Airborne to target a clear space close to the center of the enemy base. If all enemies are defeated, the AI will target their own base, with the same circumstances.
Changelog[]
- Red Alert 2 patch 1.002: fixed an exploit related to this support power which allowed structures to be placed anywhere.
- Yuri's Revenge patch 1.001: Guardian GIs no longer have trouble firing at paratroopers.

Trivia[]
- It's not possible to make this SuperWeapon drop anything other than Infantry. Forcing it will create a new InfantryType with the same ID, stats and properties as the non-InfantryType but without a unit graphic and all that bugs that entails (like being impossible to actually kill with machine gun fire and similar, though "kills" do count towards promotion. Can still be killed with tank shells, missiles, Nukes, and electric-like Warheads though; as long as the Warheads involved don't use the default
InfDeath=0
).
